On
December 10th, Ouyang Minggao, member of the Standing Committee of Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference, academician of China Academy of
Sciences and expert of new energy power system, gave a keynote speech at the
20th Annual Meeting of Chinese Enterprise Leaders and 22nd Annual Meeting of
Future Stars of China Enterprises held by China Entrepreneur magazine. It
mainly includes the following aspects:
1.
To achieve the goal of "carbon neutrality", we must advance the new
energy revolution.
2.
It is estimated that around 2035, the electric vehicle market will develop into
a big industry with an annual sales volume of 25 million vehicles and a total
industrial chain output value of nearly 10 trillion.

With regard to the future application of lithium-ion batteries, not only
electric vehicles, but also energy storage is an important direction. The
safety problem of large-scale lithium-ion battery energy storage power station
is a challenge, but there are technical solutions.

Hydrogen-powered vehicles as the forerunner will drive the development of the
whole industrial chain of green hydrogen energy and become a bigger strategic
industry.

New energy smart cars are both smart terminals and smart energy storage
methods. Just as mobile phones are mobile information networks, electric cars

The intelligent technological change in the automobile industry has attracted
almost all information and Internet manufacturers to intervene in the

Carbon
Neutralization and the Background of New Energy Revolution
First
of all, we face the goal of "carbon neutrality". To achieve this
goal, we must advance the new energy revolution. As we all know, in history,
the world has experienced many energy transformations. The first energy
revolution was driven by steam engines, coal as energy and trains as
transportation, which led to the first industrial revolution. In the second
energy revolution, the power was internal combustion engine, the energy was oil
and natural gas, the main fuel was gasoline and diesel, and the vehicle became
a car-this was probably realized more than 100 years ago.
What
we are experiencing now is the third energy revolution. This time, we will take
renewable energy as the main body and all kinds of batteries as the main power.
Then, our energy carriers will be electricity and hydrogen, and the new means
of transportation will be electric vehicles. We believe that the fourth
industrial revolution will be triggered on this basis, that is, the greening
based on renewable energy and the intelligentization based on digital network.
The
core of the new energy revolution has four elements, namely, silicon energy,
hydrogen energy, energy storage and intelligence. At present, in China,
photovoltaic wind power has fully met the conditions for large-scale popularization,
but its flexible adjustment of resources is the bottleneck. Because wind power
photovoltaic depends on the weather and fluctuates, it needs to be solved by
energy storage batteries, green hydrogen energy, electric vehicles and smart
energy. Therefore, the main direction of our new energy is hydrogen energy,
energy storage and intelligence.
In
general, new energy is two major systems-power system and power system, and the
power system comes from new energy vehicles; Power system is the energy power
system that we want to upgrade now. Now that new energy vehicles have
developed, large-scale industrialization has entered ordinary people's
families, so new energy vehicles can be used to promote the new energy
revolution.

About
Pure Electric Drive Vehicle and Battery Energy Storage
In
2009, we formally formed the technology transformation strategy of China new
energy vehicle driven by pure electricity. This is the difference between the
pure electric drive in China and the international model represented by Toyota.
They range from advanced fuel vehicles to hybrid vehicles to fuel cell
vehicles, and we use lithium-ion batteries and pure electric vehicles as
platforms to drive the all-round development of hybrid and fuel cell vehicles.
This is our strategy.
In
2014, China established that new energy vehicles are the only way for China to
move from a big automobile country to a powerful automobile country, and the
industrialization of new energy vehicles in China has entered a rapid
development stage since then. From the annual output of 6,000 vehicles in 2011
to over 6 million vehicles this year, it has increased by 1,000 times in more
than ten years. Looking back, we will grow rapidly. For example, we will reach
more than 6 million vehicles this year, with a growth rate of 90%. The growth
rate may come down next year, but the base will become larger, and the annual
output of 12 million vehicles will reach 2025. Therefore, it is estimated that
around 2035, the electric vehicle market will develop into a big industry with
an annual sales volume of 25 million vehicles and a total industrial chain
output value of nearly 10 trillion.
During
the development of new energy vehicles, our power batteries have been promoted
to a higher level and a higher scale. For example, as you are familiar with, at
the beginning, the cruising range of electric vehicles was more than 100
kilometers, and the specific energy of batteries was only more than 100
watt-hours. Now, our specific energy has been continuously increased to 300
watt-hours and 350 watt-hours, and the cruising range has also been
continuously improved. Now, it is possible to reach more than 500 kilometers,
or even 1000 kilometers, but the cost is high.
Not only electric vehicles, but also energy storage in the next step is an important direction. Look at our new energy storage, which is traditional energy storage pumped storage. The new energy storage is basically lithium iron phosphate batteries. Looking forward to the future, the scale of the whole battery industry including energy storage will continue to grow. Of course, the safety of large lithium-ion battery energy storage power stations is a challenge.

Fuel
Cell Vehicle and Green Hydrogen Energy
As
you know, China's fuel cell vehicles are also internationally competitive.
According to the global shipment statistics of fuel cell vehicles in 2021,
commercial vehicles are basically promoted in China, so fuel cell commercial
vehicles are the characteristics and advantages of China, similar to pure electric
cars 10 years ago, and are leading the international trend. China initiated the
establishment of the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association to promote
international cooperation in the global hydrogen energy industry. Among them,
foreign member units account for a little more than half of our association.
The
industrialization of fuel cell vehicles has also driven the development of
hydrogen energy infrastructure. With the gradual industrialization growth of
fuel cell vehicles, hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogenation and so
on will be greatly developed, which will drive the development of the whole
hydrogen energy industry. That is, hydrogen-powered vehicles are the forerunner
to drive the development of the whole green hydrogen-powered industrial chain,
and the hydrogen-powered industry is a bigger strategic industry. The global
production of hydrogen energy is expected to reach 660 million tons by 2050. It
is used not only in transportation, but also in electricity, construction, industrial
raw materials and so on. The industrial chain of hydrogen energy is a very long
one, with a large industrial cluster and a potential of 10 trillion yuan.
Electric power application is hydrogen energy storage, which is the next
strategic direction of green hydrogen energy application in China.

Self-driving
cars and smart energy
The
further development of new energy electric vehicles is intelligent new energy
electric vehicles. Our new energy smart car is not only an intelligent terminal
but also an energy storage mode of smart energy, and our electric vehicle also
needs intelligent manufacturing. So it will lead the intelligent revolution,
including intelligent manufacturing, autonomous driving and smart energy.
Nowadays, the intelligent cockpit of electric vehicles, as well as the
functions of car networking to assist driving, are gradually automating
electric vehicles, and there will be automatic driving in the future, and even
unmanned driving in the future. At the same time, just as mobile phones are
mobile information networks, electric vehicles will be the mobile energy
Internet in the future. Because the battery in every electric vehicle can be
used for energy storage and vehicle-network interaction, a large number of
vehicle energy storage is linked to the mobile energy Internet and distributed
virtual power plants.
In
this process, the automation technology transformation in the automobile
industry has attracted almost all information and Internet manufacturers to
intervene in the intelligent automobile industry, which is also a big outlet. I
want to emphasize that with the increase of the number of electric motors, the
power distribution network in our city will be overwhelmed. If everyone charges
in disorder and goes home to charge at night, the power grid will be
overwhelmed. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the interactive function of
electric vehicle network. First, charge in an orderly manner, that is,
automatically adjust the charging time, that is, when the power load is relatively
low, such as charging after midnight. Further, the car can be charged with the
car, or the car can be used as an energy storage device in the home. If there
is photovoltaic on the roof, the photovoltaic electricity can be stored in the
"power plant" on the car, and the car can be used as an energy
storage power source to supply power to the home. For example, the battery in
the car interacts with the car network of the building, which can supply power
to the office building. Of course, you can also interact with the microgrid in
the park to store energy and supply power, which can be used to get electricity
from the Internet or discharge electricity from the Internet. We can even
exchange energy with the distribution network, which is what we call V2X, which
makes the electric vehicle truly become an intelligent energy terminal.
Of
course, the energy of a car is very limited, and the interaction between car
and network needs to be aggregated, and aggregation has great potential. For
example, in 2040, the number of electric vehicles in China will reach 300
million. If each vehicle has an average of 65 kWh, we can hold 20 billion kWh
of electricity in our vehicles. This is the total amount of electricity
consumed every day in China, which can save so much. So how much power does it
have? By then, the power support capacity of new energy vehicles to the power
grid can reach about 3 billion kilowatts, which is basically equivalent to half
of the non-fossil installed power of the national power grid in 2040, which is
very large.
Therefore,
we expect that the large-scale popularization of electric vehicles will bring
smart energy ecology based on the interaction between vehicles and networks.
First of all, in the next 10 years, it is possible to form a golden combination
of industries, that is, "distributed photovoltaic+battery energy
storage+electric vehicle network interaction+Internet of
Things+blockchain". With China's total installed photovoltaic capacity
entering the era of 1 billion kilowatts, batteries entering the era of 10
billion kilowatt hours and electric vehicles entering the era of 100 million
vehicles, we can form a trillion-dollar smart energy industry. Facing the goal
of carbon neutrality in 2060, another larger golden combination will be formed,
that is, the distributed photovoltaic on the user side will enter the scale of
2 billion kilowatts, the electric vehicles will reach the scale of 400 million,
and the interaction between electric vehicles and networks will form the scale
of 10 billion kilowatt-hours of energy storage. The capacity of this battery
will be even larger, exceeding 25 billion kilowatt-hours, so the great ecology
of this golden combination will form a larger industry of 10 trillion.
In
short, electric vehicles will form a huge power system user-side energy
Internet, which will link and pool the energy flows of our parking lots,
intelligent buildings, parks and highway quick charging and quick changing
stations.

Summary
and prospect
New
energy and new energy revolution will bring industrial revolution and economic
transformation. In the next 20 or 30 years, the automobile industry,
information industry, transportation equipment industry and energy and chemical
related industries will undergo great changes that have never happened in a
hundred years. This is the process of car replacing carriage 100 years ago,
which is very similar to today's. It also basically completed the conversion in
twenty or thirty years. We are looking forward to great changes in the next
twenty or thirty years.
To
sum up, firstly, new energy vehicles are entering a new stage of large-scale
industrialization, and it is expected that they will develop into a 10
trillion-scale industry in the next 10~15 years. Secondly, pure electric
vehicles will drive the comprehensive electrification of traffic and the great
development of battery and energy storage industry, and it is expected that it
will also develop into a 10 trillion-scale industry in about 10 to 15 years.
Third, fuel cell vehicles will promote the great development of strategic
industrial clusters of green hydrogen energy, which is expected to develop into
a 10 trillion scale industry in about 15 to 20 years; Fourthly, the
industrialization of intelligent electric vehicles will drive the great development
of the next generation information industry and the golden combination of
vehicle-network interaction and distributed photovoltaic, which is expected to
develop into a 10 trillion-scale industry in about 20 years.
